Capsaicin is an alkaloid that gives peppers their well-known spicy quality. This powerful compound behaves like an anti-inflammatory agent in the body, and has been known to treat conditions like arthritis and headaches.

Capsaicin works by inhibiting the production of Substance P, a compound responsible for swelling and pain associated with inflammation.

Habaneros belong to the same family of chili peppers that includes poblanos, bell peppers, and jalapenos. They contain more capsaicin than many other peppers, as well as a large concentration of minerals and dietary fiber.

Habaneros also contain a significant amount of vitamin C – much more than a serving of citrus fruit. Vitamin C helps keep your immune system strong and aids in wound healing.

Diets that include the nutrients provided by habanero peppers may actually help prevent the development of some potentially serious medical conditions.

Lemons have been shown to provide essential health benefits. High in vitamin C and citric acid, lemons help prevent anemia by improving your absorption of iron from plant foods. The burst of vitamin C you get when consuming lemons helps boost immunity and reduce risk of heart disease and stroke.

The pectin fiber found in lemons makes you feel full sooner and longer because it expands once ingested. As a result, lemon water has been found to be an effective tool in weight loss and weight management.

Ginger comes from a flowering plant and provides a number of health benefits when added into our daily diet. When you eat ginger, you are actually eating the root also known as the rhizome, which resembles a gnarled tree.

In addition to providing vitamin C, magnesium, and potassium, ginger contains a compound called gingerol which aids in pain relief. Ginger has actually been linked to long-term pain relief as opposed to immediate pain relief, which means over a few days feelings of pain may subside.

Turmeric contains several compounds that may support your health, including curcumin. Curcumin is the most well-known compound found in turmeric and perhaps the compound most beneficial for your health..

Turmeric has been used for centuries to treat breathing problems. More recently turmeric has been gaining notoriety for how it can help with depression, type 2 diabetes, and menstrual cramps, mainly due to curcumin.

Honey is essentially pure sugar – just without the fat and containing only small amounts of protein and fiber. Enjoyed worldwide for its sweetness and depth of flavor, honey also plays a role in many alternative medicine treatments and home remedies.

Honey contains antioxidants, which help prevent premature aging, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. It’s also a safe and effective alternative to common cough medications for children (over 1 year of age) and adults. This natural cough suppressant comes with zero side effects.

The short answer is, Yes.

Peppers are relatively low in calories and carbohydrates, which is important since diabetics need to count both to maintain their health. Most peppers contain between 5 to 7 grams of carbohydrates per cup of raw vegetable. Hot chili peppers may contain as much as 9 or 10 grams.

Peppers are rich in vitamin C, potassium, and phytonutrients, as well as a great source for dietary fiber. Fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels while decreasing the risk of heart disease.
